174 A Chamberlain Worcester figure of Madame Vestris as The Broom Girl, in white cap, rust coloured bodice and yellow skirt on circular base, 13.5cm h, painted Chamberlains Worcester in puce script, c1827-35 Lucia Elizabeth Bartolozzi (the granddaughter of Francesco Bartolozzi the engraver and wife of Auguste Armand Vestris) became famous for singing the aria "Buy a Broom" in The Hundred Pound Note performed first in 1826. The lithograph which is the source print for the present model was published by J Dickinson. £200-300 Lacking the loop from the back of the figure's bodice, the painted metal broom in the figure's hand probably 19th c. No restoration
