The Eudon George Hoard
The following thirteen lots (lots 538-550) of early 17th century Halfcrowns were discovered in the 1980's during the extensive restoration of the mid 16th century half-timbered Eudon George Manor, Shropshire. Interestingly, the house was extended in 1618 and the thirteen coins (all that were present) found with fragments of a leather purse were so well hidden as to have escaped discovery in the earlier restorations. They could well have been hoarded during the Civil War as there were several royalist strongholds in this part of Shropshire, including nearby Bridgnorth Castle which was besieged in 1646.
